In the multiverse of cruise ships, Edge might be the best timeline

Ever get that Deja Vu feeling?

We are currently sailing an Alaska cruise on Celebrity Edge, the first of four in service and two planned ships in the cruise line’s Edge class. We’ve been on the Apex (another Edge class ship) and we were looking forward to having some familiarity with the ship, since all the Edge class ships are essentially the same.

One thing we found considerable delight in was pointing out the subtle differences between Edge and Apex. Like those spot the difference pictures from our childhood, this game tested our memory and observation skills.

Or, as it occurred to me, perhaps another comparison that might be made is to the theory of the multiverse. If you’re not familiar, it’s explained excellently in the book Dark Matter (which has also been adapted into a series on Apple TV) and poorly by the heap of Marvel slop dished out recently by Disney. It basically theorizes that our universe is just one that exists simultaneously with countless other universes, and there could be countless versions of you across these universes but with slight differences. Have you ever thought about how your life might be different if you’d accepted a job offer or never broke things off with a partner? There’s a version of you in another universe who can tell you.

Getting back to my point, it’s fun to think of classes of cruise ships in this way. And it starts to make you think about that one thing that a ship you previously sailed on had that you miss.

Do you remember a specific feature, location, etc. from a previous cruise that you yearn to experience again? Share it in the comments below. I’d love to read about it!
